H. Art Taylor joins the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the organization’s new CEO.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals has hired a new CEO. H. Art Taylor will begin his term April 1; he succeeds Mike Geiger, who announced last May that he planned to step down.

Taylor has deep experience with nonprofits and giving, having been CEO of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance for 23 years. His knowledge of the sector and leadership skills make him a good fit for the role, which will start amid a period of uncertainty due to government cutbacks, says Roger Ali, AFP Global Board chair.

“He understands the importance of innovation as we are tackling unusual times we have to navigate through,” Ali told the Chronicle. “The road — it’s not clear where we will go. Art brings that deep knowledge, but also the insights of how we can travel together as AFP collectively. Our members need that right now because they’re also looking for answers. What will their future hold? And how can AFP be a catalyst to support that change that will likely come?”

In addition to his duties at BBB, where he focused on ethical fundraising and charity transparency, Taylor also hosts the Heart of Giving Podcast, which he created.

“This is a pivotal moment for our profession, as fundraisers continue to be the essential bridge between societal needs and resources,” Taylor said in the press release announcing his appointment. “I look forward to bringing my experience and passion for the nonprofit sector to AFP, working alongside our members to advance fundraising excellence and innovation.”

Geiger will remain at AFP through the end of April, Ali says, and be on hand to answer any questions for Taylor and help with a smooth transition.
