Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online

Vice President JD Vance has vowed to punish left-leaning groups that he says support extremism and violence after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. In a podcast, he specifically cited the Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation, which he accused of “funding a ‘disgusting article’ in the Nation magazine that he said was used to justify Kirk’s death.” The Ford Foundation last made a grant to the Nation in 2019, for an internship program, and Open Society said it has never financially supported the publication. An administration official said the White House is compiling a list of groups it says are “tied to political violence” and considering options including trying to strip them of their tax-exempt status.
