The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to allow it to continue to freeze nearly $5 billion in foreign aid. The White House notified Congress it would not spend the money in late August, near the end of the fiscal year, meaning Congress did not have enough time to act on the request within the required 45-day period and that the money would go unspent. In response, a group of nonprofits sued, and a federal judge ruled the administration’s maneuver illegal. The administration seeks to have that ruling overturned. (Associated Press)
