Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression has become a defender of universities against attacks by the Trump administration, after it made its name arguing that progressive orthodoxy on campus stifled free speech. It has sued over the administration’s plans to deport students who aren’t U.S. citizens because they express pro-Palestinian sentiments. It has also supported a legal challenge to cuts in federal research funds. FIRE’s chief executive said some donors have abandoned the nonprofit but that it believes it is sticking to its free-speech mission. (New York Times)
