Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online

The Sierra Club is in turmoil after its board voted to fire Executive Director Ben Jealous. Critics accused Jealous, a former leader of the NAACP, of stifling opposing viewpoints; hiring friends for costly management posts; inflating executive salaries at a time of sweeping layoffs; and hiring a lobbyist for the crypto industry — a frequent target of environmentalists — as a senior manager. In response, Jealous said he “strengthened the organization’s finances and achieved a ‘progressive union contract’” and said he will contest the board’s decision. (Los Angeles Times)
