Nonprofit News From Elsewhere Online

A new study of 1,000 poor mothers from across the country found regular cash payments had no effect on their children’s development, contrary to an already existing body of research. Some conservatives say the experiment, which lasted several years, vindicates their opposition to guaranteed-income programs. But supporters of payments note that the study was run during the irregular conditions of the pandemic and the monthly payments of $333 per family were less than the child subsidies championed by Democrats and too small “to reduce financial hardship and strain.” (New York Times)
