Cautiously, philanthropists are finding ways to counter the Trump administration’s attacks on nonprofits. They are writing bigger checks, giving more to donor-advised funds to obscure their beneficiaries, replacing some rescinded scientific funding, and shifting their focus to foundational issues, such as promoting democracy and the rule of law.
