Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have stripped their philanthropy down to focus on science, a decade after launching it with a promise to “fix American education, transform U.S. public policy, and ‘cure all disease.’ ” Sources told the New York Times the couple have been bruised by political attacks, dismayed by some liberal activism, frustrated by halting progress in some projects, and pressured by conservative figures. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has abandoned efforts in education, housing and homelessness, and criminal justice reform, and has ended internal efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
