Chef José Andrés’s World Central Kitchen has resumed work in Gaza, nearly seven weeks after it paused operations. The charity had run out of supplies as Israel blocked access to the region, but the organization said it cooked nearly 10,000 meals on Saturday “after it was able to deliver aid to its teams in Gaza for the first time in more than 12 weeks.” (New York Times)
Private schools could get a major windfall in the tax-and-spending package that is currently before the Senate. In a mechanism that could become a model for supporting other causes, the measure would give a dollar-for-dollar tax credit to taxpayers who donate to organizations that give out vouchers to private schools. Simpler and more generous than the break for charitable donations, the donation-credit scheme would also be a roundabout way to cash in appreciated stock without paying capital gains taxes.
