Some Republican senators are balking at an effort to cut $1.1 billion in funding for public broadcasting, which passed the House of Representatives last week. Among them: lawmakers who are concerned about the impact on rural stations and others who oppose cuts to a global AIDS relief program started by President George W. Bush. (New York Times)

A current and former CEO did not respond to requests for comment. (KQED)
