As Bill Gates gives away nearly $200 billion of his fortune over the next two decades, most of it will go to Africa, he announced at a gathering in Ethiopia. Mr. Gates said that his philanthropy’s focus would be largely on primary health care. He also urged the continent’s entrepreneurs and innovators to consider how artificial intelligence could improve “next generation health care systems.” (BBC)

The mayor of Tulsa, Okla., aims to launch a $105 million private charitable trust to “repair” the lasting damage of the 1921 massacre that destroyed the city’s thriving Black business district. Acknowledging the tough national climate for racial justice efforts, Mayor Monroe Nichols said the city needed “to take the next big steps to restore” after decades of redlining, underinvestment, and development that had only perpetuated the devastation in the Greenwood district. More than half of the money would go to construction and revitalization of the area. The plan does not include direct payments to the only two living survivors of the massacre or other survivors’ descendants. (Associated Press)
