A.I. is transforming the way we work and raise money — from generative A.I. to mining data for actionable insights to streamlining repetitive tasks to save time and money.
Rasheeda Childress, senior editor of fundraising, is closely tracking how fundraisers are adopting A.I. Her recent article Fundraisers Reach for A.I. to Boost Productivity features lots of insights, including some of the findings shared in our recent online forum, Navigating Fundraising Uncertainty, which Rasheeda also moderated.
The panel of nonprofit leaders shared guidance on how to make the most of A.I. tools while using them responsibly. For example, Ali Colbran, director of development, institutional giving, and donor relations at Feeding San Diego, described her A.I.-powered fundraising platform as a “little robot assistant.”
“Instead of being able to hammer out 10 personalized emails in an hour, I can do 40 because it’s using A.I. to tell me who I should be reaching out to, why I should be reaching out,” Colbran says.
CJ Orr, president of the Orr Group, a fundraising consultancy, noted that a lot of nonprofits are now using A.I. to prepare grant proposals, which he recommends. “It just cuts down on the time that it takes to write these large proposals,” Orr says. Plus, Rasheeda reports, Orr has seen programs that can help grant writers answer foundations’ questions and can learn to improve their responses over time.
