To the Editor:

Alex Daniels’s recent article, “Trump’s Victory Sparks Anguish, Elation in the Nonprofit World” (November 6), mainly focused on reactions to the election from the extremes — the ultra-right wing anti-abortionists and the ultra-left progressives.

In doing so, it ignored the very real threat a second Trump term presents to the large middle of the political spectrum, not just to the progressives. He will be a threat to decency in public discourse; to equal protection under the law for people of all faiths or no faith; to educational excellence at all levels; and to efforts to effectively address poverty or provide housing and social services.

His policies, if enacted, will harm a very broad part of the philanthropic world and impose a minority viewpoint on powerful government agencies.

Daniels’s article misses the seriousness of the problem by focusing principally on progressives in philanthropy. Trump is a real threat to so many more.
