People in Philanthropy: New Endowed Chair in the Study of Women Donors 1
Debra Mesch, a scholar who studies female donors, will hold the Eileen Lamb O’Gara Chair in Women’s Philanthropy at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. The position is believed to be the first of its kind in academe. Her appointment is effective on July 1.

She will also continue in her current posts as director of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the school and professor of public affairs in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. In her new role, she will conduct research on women’s giving, volunteering, and leadership in philanthropic organizations as well as on gender differences in philanthropy.

In her new role, she will conduct research on women’s giving, volunteering, and leadership in philanthropic organizations as well as on gender differences in philanthropy.

The chair was established in 2013 with a $1.5-million donation from Maureen and Jim Hackett and is named for Ms. Hackett’s mother, a businesswoman and philanthropist.

Ms. Mesch, who has published more than 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals, is also leading a project supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on women’s philanthropy.

Phil Peters has retired as group vice president for administration, and Mary Gailbreath, director of grants administration, has been promoted to fill his position. Fred Kump, program officer and grants financial analyst, was appointed interim director of grants administration.

Chief executive Kalman Stein will retire on May 15. Don Kandel, chief financial and chief operating officer, will take over daily operations on an interim basis.

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

Colin Bailey, director, is leaving to become director of the Morgan Library & Museum; Richard Benefield, deputy director, has been promoted to chief operating officer.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts

Erika Field, chief advancement officer at Mentor: the National Mentoring Partnership, will be chief development officer.

Naples Children & Education Foundation

Maria Jimenez-Lara, director of foundation services, has been named chief executive officer.

National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering

Elizabeth Ross, an independent consultant at the PEN American Center, has been appointed chief development officer.

National Health Foundation

Kelly Bruno, chief operating officer, has been named chief executive officer.

Markle Foundation

Robert Khedouri, a co-founder and director of PeerIQ, a financial-information services company, was named managing director and chief operating officer, and Wan-Lae Cheng, associate principal at McKinsey & Company, was appointed senior director.

W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone Foundation

Sara Slaughter, director of the education program at the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, will start as executive director on June 1

Spencer Foundation

Michael McPherson, president of the foundation, will retire in August 2016.
