Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
$208 million across 539 grants to improve community health and reduce disparities in health outcomes across New York sState.
Grantees in this round include charities that offer job training for immigrants entering the health-care work force, combat childhood hunger, improve health outcomes for new mothers, and expand access to mental-health care for older adults in rural areas of the state.
$20 million to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to establish the Truist Cares for Western North Carolina program, which will provide recovery grants to community organizations that are helping people who lost their homes or businesses during Hurricane Helene.
$16.8 million across 266 grants to nonprofit organizations that are working to strengthen and revitalize their communities in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, as well as charities that work nationally.
Of the total, 150 grants were for general operating support.
$15 million to 43 community-development groups that are working to improve the quality of life for residents of Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
$12.8 million in grants to organizations that empower people of color and other marginalized communities in Newark, N.J.
$10 million to Aptitude Medical Systems to conduct clinical studies in the United States and Africa of an over-the-counter test to detect the sexually transmitted infections chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis.
$10 million to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to create the Be Well Beaumont program, a 10-year program to distribute cancer-prevention education and resources to care providers in east Texas.
$9 million to 22 organizations that help military veterans secure stable housing and improve their mental well-being.
$9 million to more than 400 community-development nonprofit groups through its Community Possible program.
$5.2 million through its Healing Through the Arts and Nature program across 59 nonprofit groups in San Diego.
$5 million to the Union Theological Seminary for its five-year project entitled “Into the Crowd: Going Public with Positive Stories of Christian Life in America.”

$3.1 million to the Sarah Heinz House for capital improvements and community outreach at this Pittsburgh center for youths and families.

$3 million to nine organizations for wildfire-relief efforts in the Los Angeles area.
The California Fire Foundation, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and World Central Kitchen each received $500,000. Grants of $250,000 each went to AltaMed Health Services, the California Community Foundation, Direct Relief, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Team Rubicon, and Venice Family Clinic.
$3 million to support immediate wildfire relief and long-term recovery needs in southern California communities.
Of the total, $2 million will go to Team Rubicon, World Central Kitchen, and Convoy of Hope, among other disaster-relief groups. The remaining $1 million will support the foundation’s Path to Pro efforts to train skilled laborers for the rebuilding effort.
$2.6 million to the Michigan Science Center to make improvements to its planetarium theater and space exhibits.
$1 million to the Under the Radar Festival to support this annual experimental theater and performance event.
New Orleans Saints and the NFL Foundation
$1 million to the Greater New Orleans Foundation and United Way of Southeast Louisiana to provide aid to the victims of the street attack on January 1 in New Orleans.
$1 million to College Possible to enhance its coaching on college and career success for high-school students from low-income families.
$1 million to the American Red Cross to provide food, shelter, clothing, and other aid to people displaced by the California wildfires.
Through February 4, the telecommunications company will match up to an additional $1 million in donations to the American Red Cross made through the T-Mobile American Red Cross website or its T-Life app.
Grantmakers for Effective Organizations is accepting applications through its Change Leaders in Philanthropy Fellowship. The program will provide coaching and support to senior leaders at grant makers that are working to advance equitable organizational change within the philanthropic sector. Applications are due January 31.
