Grindr for Equality Names New Managing Director

Owen Ryan is joining Grindr for Equality as managing director of Grindr’s social impact initiative, dedicated to advancing health and human rights.

Grindr for Equality

Owen Ryan, president and CEO of Project Angel Heart, has been tapped as managing director of the social-impact arm of the LGBTQ social-media and dating app Grindr.

Earlier in his career, Ryan worked in HIV/AIDS policy and advocacy at the International AIDS Society, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Annenberg Foundation

Chris Ko will join the $1.5 billion foundation in December as senior director of programs and impact.

He was most recently vice president of impact and strategy at the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

Grindr for Equality

Fannie and John Hertz Foundation

Wendy Connors will become president of this $35 million foundation that awards fellowships to PhD students in science and technology, effective January 1. Currently she is its chief development officer.

Connors is set to succeed Robbee Baker Kosak, who will retire after almost 10 years at the helm.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful Foundation

Karley Frankic, executive director of the French Quarter Management District, has been selected as executive director of this new nonprofit organization that will raise money for the state program Keep Louisiana Beautiful.

More New CEOs

Blair Demers, a nonprofit consultant and former executive director of Education for All Children, has been tapped as CEO of the Foundation for Seacoast Health, in New Hampshire. She follows Deb Grabowski, who led the $25 million foundation for 16 years and has now retired.

Aubrey Henderson, executive director of Cradles to Crayons Massachusetts, will become CEO of NEADS World Class Service Dogs on January 1. She will succeed Gerry DeRoche, who is retiring after 14 years in the role.

Laura MacNeill has become CEO of the CMT Research Foundation, a nonprofit group that raises funding to develop treatments and cures for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. She was most recently CEO of the Global Lyme Alliance and succeeds Cleary Simpson, who is remaining with the organization as vice chair of its Board of Directors.

Kamala Martinez, vice president of development at the United Way of South Sarasota, is now president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast. She succeeds Joy Mahler, who has retired after 41 years as its leader.

Jennifer Thompson, a social worker and executive director at Hope Loves Company, has been named CEO of the United Way of Hunterdon County, in New Jersey.

Julie Turner, a professor and chair of the Department of Nonprofit Administration at Lindenwood University’s Plaster College of Business and Entrepreneurship, has been hired as president and CEO of United Services for Children.

Other Notable Appointments

Elaine Atherton, head of programs at the Scratch Foundation, is now vice president of programs at Camelback Ventures, a nonprofit group that supports entrepreneurship in communities of color.

Wanda Cook, chief accounting officer at Lingo Communications, is now chief financial officer at the Epilepsy Foundation.

Merissa Courtright will be the first chief development officer at the Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library. Most recently she was chief development officer at the Duke University School of Medicine’s Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center.

Dominique Isaac Grate, associate vice president for institutional advancement and development at Jarvis Christian University, will now serve as interim vice president for institutional advancement and development.

Ayesha Khan has been tapped as chief development officer at Volunteers of America-Greater New York. She previously led the global partnerships and philanthropic services team at the International Rescue Committee.

Srilatha Lakkaraju was named director of charitable-giving solutions at the Northern Trust’s Foundation and Institutional Advisors practice. She was previously a senior vice president and philanthropic client manager at Bank of America.

Jesse Meyer, senior director of major gifts and college campaign director at the University of Chicago, has been named vice president for advancement at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Kenneth Pollack will join the Middle East Institute as vice president of its Policy Center on January 2. Currently he is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he focuses on Middle Eastern political-military affairs.

Marc Tumminelli, who was recently the stage director for the touring productions of Land That I Love and My Town, has joined the performing-arts nonprofit Inside Broadway as its artistic consultant.
