Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
$15 million over three years to the East Bay Community Foundation to increase access to low-interest loans, grants, training, and other growth opportunities for small and diverse businesses in Oakland, Calif.
$14 million commitment to the University of California at San Francisco for partnerships with local nonprofit groups that will train 2,000 residents of San Francisco for careers in health care, including medical practice coordinators, medical assistants, and radiology technologists.
$10.2 million across 116 organizations to enhance quality of life for residents of Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
$10 million to five nonprofit groups through its Teen Mental Health Initiative to expand access to mental-health resources for 1 million high-school students and 10,000 teachers in the United States.
Selena Gomez’s Rare Impact Fund, DonorsChoose, the JED Foundation, the Child Mind Institute, and the Steve Fund will share the funding.
$9 million over three years to 22 nonprofit organizations that support the mental health of young people ages 5 to 18, particularly through programs and services in schools and other youth-centered settings.
Healthcare Foundation of Wilson
$6 million to Barton College to develop undergraduate programs in nursing, exercise science, psychology, and public health and master’s degrees in kinesiology and nursing at its new School of Health Sciences, which is expected to open in the fall of 2025.
Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation
$5.2 million across 23 grants to support families, social-service nonprofits, and the arts in Florida.
The largest grant, $750,000, went to the Safe Children Coalition to hire more staff members and expand child-welfare services for children in Florida’s Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties.
$5 million to the University of Oklahoma to enhance programs in academics, research, and work-force development within the university’s College of Allied Health, College of Medicine’s Department of Neurology, and College of Pharmacy.
$5 million to Mercy Health Foundation Northwest Arkansas to expand access to health care across the region.
Kenneth Rainin Foundation
$4 million to 11 research projects through its Innovator Awards Program to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
$2.7 million in community-development grants to organizations in 21 U.S. regions.
The accounting firm’s foundation has additionally directed $1 million in grants over three years to nonprofit organizations in New York and Orlando, Fla.
TD Bank Group is accepting applications for grants from its 2024 TD Ready Challenge to support nonprofit and charitable organizations that serve small-business owners from historically marginalized communities and help them develop and start a new business or strengthen an existing business in the United States and Canada. This year, the program will make 10 grants worth $1 million each. Applications are due September 5.
