Bezos Earth Fund Grants $60 Million to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Northern Great Plains Program is designed to conserve mixed grass prairie and associated wildlife populations of the northern prairie.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Northern Great Plains Program is designed to conserve mixed grass prairie and associated wildlife populations of the northern prairie.

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

Bezos Earth Fund

$60 million to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to restore and conserve ecosystems in the Northern Great Plains grasslands and longleaf pine forests across the Southeast.

Lilly Endowment

$40 million to the Smithsonian Institution for its array of sesquicentennial programs to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding in 2026.

The grant will support special exhibitions and programs at the Smithsonian’s museums; a longer Folklife Festival, which is held annually in the summer; a temporary re-opening of the Arts and Industries Building and Smithsonian Castle; and special events and online programs to make its collections more accessible.

Mellon Foundation

$25 million commitment to its Frontera Culture Fund, which will make grants to support the work of artists and cultural leaders in the U.S.-Mexico border region and nearby tribal communities.

Wyss Foundation

$25 million to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston to enhance its preservation, research, and exhibition of its modern-art collection.

The grant will pay to hire a curator and a conservator, as well as a renovation project that will create four new galleries for 20th century art.

Otto Bremer Trust

$11.1 million across 183 organizations to enhance quality of life for residents of Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco

$7.3 million through its Access to Housing and Economic Assistance for Development Program to 84 community-development organizations across Arizona, California, and Nevada.

Paso del Norte Health Foundation

$5 million to Texas Tech Health El Paso to recruit cancer specialists and other staff members for the forthcoming Steve and Nancy Fox Cancer Center.

Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation

$4.5 million to the University of Oklahoma to establish a doctorate-level program at the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work.

National Trust for Historic Preservation

$4 million to 24 historic churches through its National Fund for Sacred Places, which provides grants worth up to $500,000 each for preservation projects of historically significant worship spaces.

LA84 Foundation

$2.3 million to 31 community- and school-based groups that are expanding access to sports, playgrounds, and other physical-activity programs in marginalized communities.

ClimateWorks Foundation

$2 million to nine organizations to back a network of climate campaigns led by young people.

The grantees are Black Girl Environmentalist, Climate Vanguard, the Oxford Smith School, the Latin American Youth Climate Scholarship, Youth4Nature, the Youth Climate Justice Fund, Youth on Root, UNFCCC Youth Climate Champions, and the Urban Movement Innovation Fund.

San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority and Palms Casino Resort

$1.5 million to 45 local charities throughout southern Nevada.

The grants range from $5,000 to $200,000 each.

World Education Services Mariam Assefa Fund

$1 million through its Elevating Migrant Leadership: Building Inclusive Futures program to 10 organizations that work to increase civic engagement and leadership among immigrants and refugees in eight U.S. states.

Each grantee will receive $100,000.

New Grant Opportunity

The Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund is accepting applications for grants to back new approaches to climate restoration in the face of rapid deterioration. This year, the fund will make three grants of $75,000 each to organizations worldwide that are working to stop and reverse global warming, focusing on predictive environmental-impact assessments, impact-modeling studies, and small-scale field tests of climate-intervention technologies. Applications are due December 1.
